Culture & customs
Sisters put a seven-coloured tika on their brothers’ foreheads and give them a makhamali garland, which doesn’t wilt, as a wish for long life. They draw a line of oil around their brothers and crack a walnut at the door to keep Yama away. Brothers give gifts in return.
The temple on the island in Rani Pokhari is opened once a year, today, for people who have no brother or sister to give or receive tika.
