The plan

  1. MorningLand at Tribhuvan airport. Check in and get a local SIM and cash (ATMs can run dry during Dashain).
  2. AfternoonGo to Tundikhel and Hanuman Dhoka for the Fulpati procession.
  3. EveningWalk through Asan and Indra Chowk to see the old town's shrines lit for Navaratri.

Culture & customs

Fulpati means “flowers and leaves”. Sacred plants, including jamara, banana stalks, sugarcane and bel fruit, are carried from Gorkha, the old home of the Shah kings, to the Hanuman Dhoka palace. The Nepal Army greets them at Tundikhel with a gun salute.

After that, Durga is believed to be present in every home until the end of Dashain.
