Culture & customs
The stone Vishnu, more than 1,000 years old, lies on a bed of coiled snakes. Vishnu is believed to sleep for four months of the year and wakes on Haribodhini Ekadashi in late November. During your visit he is “asleep”.
Kings of Nepal were said to never visit this temple, because of a prophecy that they would die if they saw it.
