Culture & customs

Newars, the original people of the Kathmandu Valley, call Dashain Mohani and celebrate it their own way. There are sword processions, masked dances, and a big family feast called nakhtya, where relatives and friends are invited to eat together.

Patan’s courtyards (bahal) are old Buddhist monasteries that are now neighbourhoods, and each has its own shrine.
