Govardhan Puja honours Krishna, who lifted a mountain to protect cowherds from a storm.
For Newars, today is Mha Puja, worship of your own body and soul. Each family member sits before a colourful mandala and receives blessings. It’s also New Year’s Day of Nepal Sambat, the Newar calendar, which now begins the year 1147.
