The plan

  1. EarlyTake the Chandragiri cable car, or go to Nagarkot for sunrise.
  2. MiddayLook at the Himalayan range. Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Dorje Lakpa can all be clear.
  3. EveningHead back to the city.

Culture & customs

The monsoon has washed the air clean and Kartik has the best mountain views of the year. Many peaks are believed to be the homes of gods. Some, like Machhapuchhre, are closed to climbers for that reason.

Everest’s Nepali name is Sagarmatha, “forehead of the sky”.
